Why We Do What We Do

In the day to day "grind" of keeping up with details of the business, it's easy to lose site of what we really do.

It's 9:45 PM and Jill and I are still at the office. OK don't feel sorry for us. We just got back from 2 fabulous weeks of vacation in Hawaii. So I can live with a few later nights at the office this week.

Anyway, last September a school district called us about a student who was not doing well in school. This 8th grade girl was failing. Her mom listed reading, spelling, comprehension, listening, math, organization, memory, as well as low self esteem as major concerns. Mom reported that these had been issues since kindergarten and she couldn't find help.

The school district decided to place her in our learning center.

She finished her program here on July 30th. In between we used many tools to help strengthen her skills. These include: PACE, Master the Code, auditory Samonas Sound Therapy, and Discover Math. By integrating programs and the skills of our clinicians, she has made incredible progress.

Jill just brought in her exit test test scores. The results are amazing!

  • Processing Speed: 1.5 years growth
  • Working Memory: 8.6 years growth
  • Visual Processing: 4.5 years growth
  • Word Attack: 2.3 years growth
  • Auditory Analysis: 12.2 years growth
  • Logic-Reasoning: 2.5 years growth
  • Math (composite): 2.5 grade growth

These HUGE jumps are so exciting.

But what's even better is what it has done for her. She is like a new person. Her self esteem is up not just because she feels better about herself, but because she now "owns" the skills that make learning easy. Suddenly school is a different place. Her life is different. Mom was asking for an evaluation of our services so that she can tell people.

On a late night in the office, it's nice to be reminded of the success our students make. When the day is done, it's all about changing lives. The joy for us is overwhelming.

That's why we do what we do.
