The Learning100 site is the dream of Jill and David Stowell, owners of Stowell Learning Center, to help support private practice educators and encourage others to go into the business. 

Jill's real passion is to help students overcome learning challenges and becoming comfortable, independent learners. David loves understanding all the elements that turn teaching into a thriving business that can sustain the owner and serve clients over a long period of time.

Every week we get calls and emails from anxious parents throughout the country trying to find local help for their students.  This web site is one way we can contribute to more and better services that help students become comfortable, independent learners.

Who -
The Learning100 site is designed for educators who are in private practice, are starting private practices, or are considering starting a practice.  Private practice includes:

• One-on-one tutoring done in the student's or tutor's home
• Educational Therapists
• Speech and Language Specialists
• Tutoring centers
• Group tutorials
• Learning centers
• Academic tutoring
• Learning Disabilities/Dyslexia/ADD remediation
• Any remedial focus
• SAT/ACT prep
• Any business that works with students outside the school setting

This site can also be used as a resource for teachers who are looking for more effective ways to help struggling students.

Most businesses of this type are started by educators who have left the school arena in order to focus more specifically on helping students in a chosen area.  There is little or no help for these kinds of businesses, despite the fact that the need for outside services is absolutely HUGE!

What -
On this site you will find information in three categories:

1. Information about the educational aspects of the business - Things like programs that work, disabilities and syndromes, testing/assessment, how to work with different kinds of students, links to other resources, etc.
2. Information about the business aspects of the business - Finances, marketing and advertising, leasing office space, dealing with personnel, time management, planning, organizing, living a life outside the business, etc.
3. Opportunities for further training - Workshops, tele-classes, audio programs, group coaching, etc.

The site is a gathering place for those of us working in our field.

Organization of the site -
The information on the site is divided into these major channels:

• Articles - By us or by others in the field - Some articles are in the "public" part of the site, most are in the "members only" section.
• Discussion Groups - Where you can "pick the brains" of other business owners across the country
• Downloads - A place to download information, forms, audio programs, and other resources
